Well done is better than well said. – Benjamin Franklin
I haven’t seen the movie that won this year’s Oscar for Best Picture, but I KNOW I could’ve written the dialogue in my sleep! And I know that because The Artist is a silent movie, which means just what you might think it means: no talking, just acting. That’s amazing to me, that the actors had to tell the story and captivate the audience just by their actions and expressions.
We live in a time when words are at the center of everything. Being that I am a speaker, blogger, Facebooker, and YouTuber, I seek to find the right words to say or write. Words are powerful, but actions can mean a whole lot more.
Several years ago, I had to hire an assistant to help keep my scattered ADHD brain from being so scattered. I set up interviews with several people, and I was shocked at how many of them didn’t show up. At first I thought it was me. Did I have the date or time wrong? I know I took my ADHD meds. But it wasn’t me; people just didn’t show up, and they didn’t even call to cancel! One time, I talked to a person an hour before the interview, and he was still a no-show.
If you don’t do what you say you’ll do, people will learn not to trust you. That’s no fun. However, if you follow up your words with actions, you’ll find that people will trust and respect you. That opens up opportunities for cool relationships and friendships.
Doing what you say is a win-win for everyone. Actions really do speak louder than words.
TIP: Don’t let your words be empty.
