Full Speed Ahead

In my travels, I rent cars pretty often. Every time I pick up a car, the sales rep asks me, “Do you want the gas option?” Normally, when you usually rent a car, you have to bring it back with a full gas tank. Otherwise, they charge you big-time to refill the tank. With the gas option, you pay for a full tank of gas at the beginning, and you just return the car at the end without having to fill up.

Sometimes the rep will give me the hard sell on the gas option: “If you buy gas yourself, it will cost you $3.65 per gallon. But it you take the gas option, it will only cost $3.45 per gallon. What a deal! Come on, it’s a no-brainer!”

But what I have to remember is that I’m paying for a full tank of gas even if I only use half of it. The only way this is a good deal is if I return my car by coasting into the parking lot, driving on fumes!

At the end of my life, I want to be like that rental car. I don’t mean changing my name to Ben Honda and sticking a GPS to my forehead. I mean that I want to be coasting in on fumes, nothing left in the tank!

I want to have reached all of my potential, with all my dreams fulfilled and all my goals checked off. I want the Big Sales Rep in the Sky to say, “Ben, you lived life to the fullest.”

If you want to go out on empty like I do, here’s the key: Keep the pedal to the metal.

Keep moving forward. Rest when you need rest, play when you feel playful, but keep your engine running and never quit. The final parking lot comes around before you know it!

TIP: Keep moving!
